Easter Essay

Let's get rid of them forever!

“THE CHALLENGE”
An Easter Sunday Essay
April 24, 2011

CROP CIRCLES RESEARCH FOUNDATION, having grave concerns regarding the very real, minute-to-minute threat that Weapons of Mass Destruction, and most importantly, Thermonuclear Weapons represent to the continuity of our own human civilization and to the integrity of the biosphere of planet Earth, declares the following:

1. CCRF declares the major world religions of all sects of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam to be equally negligent in their failure to provide necessary, compelling, and in fact critical moral council to their respective faithful and followers in their failure to insist upon, in concert, their unwavering, unrelenting, and uncompromising condemnation of the escalation of the nuclear arms race, and in the very concept of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD’s), over a period of no less than SIX DECADES. Religious leaders of these major world religions have remained relatively and inappropriately silent in voicing their unequivocal condemnation of the production and stockpiling by many nations of ever more sophisticated and destructive thermonuclear Weapons of Mass Destruction which have been, and continue to be, an unconscionable threat to the very survival of our civilization and to the biosphere of planet Earth. In their failure to admonish their faithful and followers regarding the moral imperative to cease and desist in these dangerous enterprises, they have abdicated their responsibility to rigorously and unflaggingly oppose this chain of events, and have arguably lent their tacit approval to the ongoing development of this unsustainable, unethical, immoral, and extremely dangerous human enterprise through their relative silence.

2. CCRF declares Christianity, Judaism, and Islam to be equally negligent in their failure to provide necessary, compelling, and critical moral council to national political and military leaders in their failure to insist upon, in concert, their unwavering, unrelenting, and uncompromising condemnation of the escalation of the nuclear arms race, and in the very concept of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD’s), over a period of no less than SIX DECADES. A highly publicized and coordinated campaign admonishing every nation’s political and military leaders to immediately cease and desist in their pursuit of acquiring and maintaining the capability of destroying entire cities, millions of human lives, and potentially all of Earth’s biosphere as we know it, could have and should have been undertaken by the leadership of the major world religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, but those leaders have abdicated their moral responsibility to engage in such a campaign. The means have long been available to the leaders of the major world religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam to organize and implement such a campaign, but they have failed to act with the implementation of such a campaign, and they have remained relatively silent in their failure to speak out in universal condemnation of this extremely significant and evolving threat. Through their silence, they have demonstrated their tacit approval of this situation throughout the evolution of this immoral, unethical, and extremely dangerous human enterprise.

3. It is clear that the leaders of the Christian, Jewish, and Islamic faiths have failed to adapt their role as our designated and widely accepted “moral compass” for a world now transformed into a global civilization which presently remains under the constant threat of potential annihilation due to decisions and actions taken by world military and political leaders over the past SIX DECADES, while leaders of the Christian, Jewish, and Islamic faiths have essentially remained inappropriately silent regarding the ethical and moral implications of these actions.

4. CCRF contests as patently untrue the centuries-old tenet maintained by Christian, Jewish, and Islamic doctrine which states that God has granted mankind “dominion” (def: “supreme authority, absolute ownership”) over the plants and animals and all flora and fauna of planet Earth.

5. CCRF declares that evolutionary law has proven this teaching to be unsupportable, unethical, and immoral, and represents an invalid and dangerous justification which has, in part, allowed world political and military leaders to rationalize placing the entire biosphere of Earth in jeopardy with the threat of nuclear annihilation at the hand of man.

6. CCRF declares the major world religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam to represent equivalent threats to the political destabilization of human civilization which could potentially result in the precipitation of thermonuclear war and a catastrophe of immeasurably serious import and consequence to human civilization and to the biosphere of planet Earth and which neither Christianity, Judaism, nor Islam has taken necessary and decisive action to prevent.

7. CCRF declares that the evidence of our present nuclear WMD conundrum, and the relative silence of the major world religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam speaks for itself, and therefore we declare Christianity, Judaism, and Islam have proven to be ineffective and incompetent as viable systems of moral guidance in the relatively new context of a nuclear weapons-armed world, and apparently indifferent concerning the important imperative of insuring the well-being of the biosphere of planet Earth for all generations to come.

8. CCRF declares that humanity is in desperate and immediate need of an effective moral compass, one which incorporates and promulgates but a single precept which has, ironically, served as the cornerstone of the major world religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam since their inception. This precept can be understood by all and defines precisely what human behaviors/actions are acceptable (“good”) and which human behaviors/actions are unacceptable (“evil”). This precept is deceptively simple to write, but will require a new level of enlightened human maturity and discipline to implement. It is expressed in its entirety in a single sentence:

“DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU”.

9. CCRF declares and defines “OTHERS” as every human being, every animal, every plant, every vertebrate, and every invertebrate of planet Earth and beyond.

10. CCRF CHALLENGES the leadership of the major world religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam to finally, and appropriately, speak out loudly and forcefully in condemnation of the unethical and immoral strategy of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), and use every means at their disposal to convince, or coerce if necessary, world political and military leaders to cease and desist in the production and maintenance of arsenals of Weapons of Mass Destruction of any and all descriptions, and to scrap every nuclear weapon and other WMD extant on Earth. If we must have war, it must be absent any potential to involve WMD’s of any description.

11. There must become a world-wide, unrelenting, crescendo chorus emanating from the leadership of the major world religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam demanding an end to the MADness of a WMD and nuclear-armed world. Actions speak louder than words. Considering the importance of all that is at stake as we struggle to insure the continuity of human civilization and to safeguard the integrity of the biosphere of our beloved home planet Earth, a call from all leaders of the major world religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam for orchestrated civil disobedience would, in our judgment, not be inappropriate. As citizens of planet Earth, we cannot and should not continue to fund governments and their militaries which remain steadfastly and intractably engaged in these dangerous and potentially devastating actions.

If we can all agree, every human being on planet Earth, to govern our every action in accord with the maxim “DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU” in each and every life situation we encounter, it will become immeasurably more likely that we will have peace, justice, and prosperity for all people, and for the biosphere of planet Earth, for all time.

To Christians throughout the world, let us make this day of Easter Sunday the day when its promise of salvation and hope will become manifest in the dawn of a new age for humanity, and for the biosphere of Earth. Let us today choose a path that will finally free us from the threat of sudden annihilation resulting from our present day apathy and silent acceptance of our nation’s bloated stockpiles of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction. Let us all, Christians, Jews, and Muslims alike, unite our voices as we demand an end to this insanity and make a solemn promise that we will never again allow ourselves, those we love, and our home planet to be exposed to the threat of nuclear annihilation. Let us all unite in a loud and clear voice calling for ZERO NUCLEAR WEAPONS!!
